Icing a concern through tonight

After a dicey morning commute in portions of Monmouth and Ocean counties and in areas to the north, icing will continue to be a concern through the evening hours, forecasters say.

A Winter Weather Advisory continues for the entire Shore until early Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Through this morning, “ice will continue to accumulate on untreated surfaces,” a Short Term Forecast bulletin from the service advises. “Be prepared for slippery conditions on roads, walkways, and parking lots.”

Colder air will continue to push from north to south throughout the day as more light precipitation moves through the region, forecasters say, resulting in freezing rain and drizzle at times. By tonight, the wintry mix might changeover to snow before tapering off.

Anyone traveling — especially during the evening commute — should monitor conditions.

“The evening commute is not going to be much better with everything on the ground freezing,” said meteorologist Steven DiMartino, owner of nynjpaweather.com
