Heat index values are expected to hit the middle to upper 90s across the interior lowlands Wednesday, the US National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mount Holly advises.

The heat index measures the level of discomfort when combining the temperature and humidity, or “how it really feels.” Actual temperatures are expected be around 90 degrees in the lower elevations away from the coast.

“Keep yourself and the elderly and very young comfortable,” the National Weather Service suggests.

If you’re looking for at least some relief tomorrow, head to the beaches, where values will be slightly lower.

But the heat will be short-lived, with temperatures decreasing slightly on Thursday, dropping more significantly to the lower 70s on Friday, and even cooler in the upper 60s on Saturday. Sunday will be slightly warmer in the lower 70s.
