Historic Philadelphia fire company to be designated with marker

Ben Franklin did a lot for Philadelphia, and helping start the nation’s first volunteer fire company was among his accomplishments.

That history will be celebrated tomorrow when the old Union Fire Company will get a historical marker.

KYW reports the marker will be placed along the grindstone alley off Market Street between Second and Third, where the company stored equipment during the 1700s.

The 10 a.m. ceremony is open to the public.
