Historic Germantown launched first ‘Germantown Gives’ fundraiser this weekend

To encourage the spirit of giving, Historic Germantown will sponsor its first-annual “Germantown Gives” charity drive from Nov. 24 to Dec. 14.

The effort will benefit Face to Face Germantown, a non-profit organization which has evolved from a soup kitchen into a “multi-faceted organization dedicated to caring for every aspect of its clients’ well-being on an individualized, person-to-person basis.”

Barbara Hogue, executive director of Historic Germantown, said the idea arose from the group’s desire to be seen as more than just a tourist organization, but as anchors and leaders in the surrounding community.

“It’s the holiday season, and the spirit of giving. It’s nice to remember that people in the neighborhood don’t have the basic needs. This is a way to draw awareness to that,” said Hogue. “It’s a really important thing for us to do.”
