High Street will reopen this week as Levoy Theater work continues

Once sheet pilings have been installed near Millville’s Levoy Theater, High Street will reopen later this week.

The pilings around the theater are an important part to its rebuiding.

“Sheet piling is a vertical bracing to create a perimeter around the work area so the inside of the perimeter can be excavated without affecting the adjacent soils,” theater Director Phillip Van Embden tells the News of Cumberland County.

The pilings have been drilled 35 feet into the ground at the theater’s front and side walls as a step in rebuilding the facility that caved in earlier this year.

Businesses have been open during the work, but the 100-block of High Street has been closed to cars. Work will wrap up at the end of Friday.
