High steaks
West Chester’s Historical and Architectural Review Board Thursday squashed plans for a steak shop in a historic building on Gay Street.
Developer Jack McFadden may take his plans elsewhere for Jack’s Steaks & Shakes, which would include street-front service windows — something the board said isn’t in keeping with the historic property’s look.
McFadden settled on the property at 16 E. Gay St., which has been abandonded for 14 years, Nov. 23. Despite his history in the area of building a few other restaurants and pubs, the board only approved his plans for a new roof.
McFadden told the Daily Local that while he understands the board’s wanting to preserve history, it should also welcome development during the slumped economy.
