Health food stores battle for business in Chestnut Hill

Weavers Way has pretty much become synonymous with healthy food in the Northwest. With three locations, the co-op has become a staple in Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy and West Oak Lane as the city moves forward with plans to make health food more accessible.

But a potential competitor is coming in. The Fresh Market, a North Carolina company, already has locations in Delaware and Montgomery counties. But the potential for mixed land use has drawn developer Bowman Properties, Ltd. to Germantown Avenue.

NewsWorks’ Aaron Moselle talked with representative from Bowman and Weavers Way GM Glenn Bergman, who see Bowman’s plans for a market, retail space and housing very differntly.

Feed the Feed: Is the Bowman plan too elaborate for Germantown Avenue, or does it create the friendly competition and foodie atmosphere the developer says it does?
