Hamels on pitch to Bryce Harper: ‘I was trying to hit him’

When Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels sent a fastball over the plate in Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals, he wasn’t aiming for the catcher’s glove.

“I was trying to hit him,” Hamels later told CSN Philly about hitting Bryce Harper in the back.
Hamels, who got his comeuppance when Jordan Zimmerman hit him in the leg two innings later, said the hit was a welcome and warning of sorts for 19-year-old Harper. He also said he’s got no problem with the way Zimmerman leveled the playing field.
