Group runs ads urging ‘no’ vote on open space in N.J.

A conservative group is launching a campaign urging New Jersey voters to reject a ballot measure that would set aside money for open space preservation.

The campaign by Americans for Prosperity was first reported by NJ.com and it is to include $60,000 of radio, newspaper and social media advertising.

The group’s New Jersey director Daryn Iwicki says there are more pressing issues in the state than funding open space preservation.

Other groups have campaigned in favor of the Nov. 4 ballot question, including The Trust for Public Land, which has sent mailers to voters.

Some environmental groups oppose the plan, partly because it would divert money from other environmental projects.
