Green winter

The leaves may nearly have all fallen from the trees, but the city is still talking about going green with an array of local events and programs.

On December 7 at the Academy of Natural Sciences, the city will release Green2015: An Action Plan for the First 500 Acres.  The report outlines how the city will meet the goals of the Greenworks initiative to provide more city greenspace.

The Mayor’s Office of Sustainability has also released a series of videos that extoll the benefits of solar photovoltaic (or PV) systems for the home.

Finally, the Philadelphia Water Department is now offering incentives for companies to install devices that preserve and reuse storm water.  The department, along with the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, is offering loans between 75 thousand and 1 million dollars at 1 percent fixed interest to install retention basins, green roofs, porous paving, and other water saving equipment.
