Musician calls the audible: Eagles’ fight song outscores Vikings’ theme

'Skoal, Vikings' doesn't soar like 'Fly, Eagle, Fly,' says Grammy-winning singer/songwriter.

The Eagles are ready and set to go against the Minnesota Vikings in Philadelphia Sunday for the NFC championship.

But in the most informal of informal polling, one contest has already been decided — which team has the better fight song.

“Fly, Eagles, Fly” has it all over “Skoal, Vikings,” rules Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Scott Sax.

The Eagles’ anthem is not only inspiring, he says, but melodic.

“It’s open to every man woman and child to sing along with,” he said. “It has a real Philadelphia feel to it.”

In perhaps the ultimate compliment, he likens “Fly, Eagles, Fly” to the theme of another Philadelphia hero.

“It reminds me of ‘Rocky.’ ”
