‘Goo’ that slowed Pa. Turnpike traffic is tar-like chemical; drivers referred to insurance company

The “goo” that jammed Pennsylvania Turnpike traffic for hours last night turned out to be a tar-like chemical that spilled from a tanker truck.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports eastbound traffic was delayed between the New Castle and Allegheny Valley exits as cars slowed and eventually stopped when the substance hardened.

The truck rode about 40 miles on the turnpike before the driver pulled into a service plaza and noticed the leak. Motorists who got caught in the mess have been instructed to call the tanker’s insurance company at 1-800-238-6225 with claim number F9Y7972.
