Germantown High’s Will Parks named to all-state football team

It was another week of honors for Germantown High School’s standout football player Will Parks.

First, he was named to the Daily News‘ All-City and All-Public League first teams for his play this year. Then came word that Parks was named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers’ All-State AAAA Football team, one of only two local players to attain that lofty accomplishment. (LaSalle College High School’s Sean Burke is the other).

Parks learned of the honor when his dad called after school one day this week.

“There are only four or five all-staters from Germantown, names like Lance Johnstone. To be mentioned in that category is a really good feeling,” Parks said of a linebacker who played for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings from 1996 to 2006. “When my dad called, he said, ‘Congrats son, you’re all state. I’m proud of you.’ But, the grind still goes on. We don’t stop working.”

Parks, who will play in The Chesapeake Bowl regional football showcase on Dec. 30, helped lead the Bears to a resurgent season that saw both a Thanksgiving throttling of rival MLK High and a Public League playoff run that ended with a semifinal loss to Northeast High. He will play at the University of Pittsburgh next year.

Other Germantown Bears who made the Daily News all-city list were lineman Kwame Miller and running back Ackeno Robertson (first team), wide receiver Myles Brooker, quarterback Cedric Wright and running back Aaron Boyd (second team).
