Generally calm weather ahead; quick cold blast on tap for mid-week

Before we get into the outlook, that much buzzed about storm for next week no longer looks like much of a threat, as the latest runs of the two major models (GFS and EURO) have the storm out to sea south of New Jersey. Days ago, the EURO showed a snowstorm here for numerous runs, while the GFS kept it mainly dry. We didn’t give the threat much publicity here as models are notoriously inaccurate 5+ days in advance (yes, we know that the EURO model nailed Sandy over a week in advance — rare, but thankfully we had the notice), so it’s a lesson to sit back and not get excited too early.

So for today, a mixture of sun and clouds, with temperatures in the low 50s. A southwest flow will develop later, and combined with a generally cloudy sky, it will be warmer overnight than last night. More sunshine tomorrow, and warmer (upper 50s), but a gusty west wind will make it feel cooler.

Canadian air invades Tuesday and Wednesday (coldest of the season!), but we’ll bounce back to more seasonable temperatures for Thursday through next weekend.
