The GAP does Cape May

    Key West, Montauk and…Cape May?

According to the GAP, the town at the tip of New Jersey is one of three destinations they feel exemplifies summer, at least according to their t-shirts.

This spring, the retail chain released a yellow women’s t-shirt that features a few sailboats and the words “Cape May.”

When I first saw it, I was shocked. GAP is an international retailer, and if a city is on one of their t-shirts, it’s usually New York. So I asked why they chose Cape May.

“We often feature cities or places on our graphic tees. For summer, we selected places that evoke the easy, carefree spirit of summer — including Cape May, Montauk and Key West,” said Kimberly Terry, Sr. Manager, Gap Brand Engagement.

The shirt is no longer available online, but you can still find it in stores. Most likely, it’s on sale (over the Fourth of July holiday, it was $10).

I’ll suggest, though, getting your Cape May shirt from a local retailer like the Flying Fish Studio, whose Cape May shirts are unique, many made from organic materials.
