Funeral set for Philly highway patrolman

Funeral services are set for a Philadelphia police officer killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 95.

Viewings are scheduled for Thursday and Friday for Officer Brian Lorenzo at the Givnish Funeral Home on Academy Road, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul at 1723 Race Street.

Lorenzo was off-duty but still in uniform on his Highway Patrol motorcycle when he was hit Sunday morning by a driver going south in the northbound lanes. The 23-year veteran was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, 48-year-old John Leck Jr., remains hospitalized. The Levittown man faces charges of homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence and related offenses. State police say they don’t know when Leck will be released.
