FSU chief talks of leaving as Penn St. vote nears

Florida State University’s president, a former Penn State professor, says he’s leaving the school just two days before Penn State’s trustees plan to vote on a new president.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported Saturday that Eric Barron said he’s not making a move for the money, but rather because he sees the next challenge for himself.

Penn State officials aren’t confirming whether Barron is under consideration in the secretive process. A school spokeswoman says that trustees will meet Monday to discuss and vote on a presidential appointment.

Barron didn’t appear to directly tell the Tallahassee Democrat that he expects to get the Penn State post. Barron hasn’t responded to a request for comment from The Associated Press and at least one Florida State trustee says he hasn’t heard anything from Barron.
