Fresh Grocer closing on Chelten

Rumors have been kicking around for a few weeks, but now it’s official, the Fresh Grocer on Chelten Avenue and Pulaski Avenue is closing.

Regular shoppers discovered nearly bare shelves on Wednesday and ‘store closing’ signs that invited them to the store on Chew Avenue near LaSalle, which opened two summers ago, with much fanfare and heavy public subsidy.

Fresh Grocer may be out within a week – most of its products are already gone. In about a month, shoppers can expect the bulk discount store Save-a-Lot to open in the Chelten location, under Fresh Grocer ownership – this is according to current workers at the Save-a-Lot. They say it will move from its current location on Wayne Avenue.

NewsWorks has not yet been able to confirm this claim from corporate offices.
