Free flu shots available in Germantown on Friday

On Friday, state Rep. Rosita C. Youngblood’s office will host its Third Annual Free Flu Shot event at 310 W. Chelten Ave. in Germantown.

The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new district office, comes amid an early outbreak of the virus that has grabbed widespread attention.

Thomas Neilson, chief of staff in Youngblood’s district office, said this event couldn’t have come a better time with recent public attention surrounding the virus.

“We were going to do this anyway, but the news have been picking up on [instances] of people who are afraid of the shot or can’t get it because they don’t have a medical insurance,” said Neilson.

Previous flu-shot events averaged 50 vaccinations, but Neilson said he expected a bigger turnout this year.

Licensed health care providers will be on-site for the free event that is open to the public.
