FOW Workdays at Kitchen’s Lane May 25, June 1
The Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) invite volunteers to two upcoming workdays at Kitchen’s Lane on Saturday May 25 and June 1, National Trails Day.For Saturday, May 25, 9 am to 1 pm, meet at Kitchen’s Lane parking lot. Volunteers will work on a new trail project will begin at the bottom of the Orange Trail adjacent to the Kitchen’s Lane parking lot. Volunteers will clear the corridor where the new trail route will be built in the near future. A strong focus will be placed on removing invasive vegetation and saving unique and beneficial species growing within the designated clearing area. Volunteers will also remove invasive vines from the trees in the immediate area. Be prepared to dive into the vegetation and have some fun. Please wear sturdy work shoes and bring a refillable water bottle if you can. Parking is limited.Saturday, June 1, is National Trails Day. 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, meet at Kitchen’s Lane parking lot. FOW will once again join in a nation-wide effort to raise awareness of and care for the trails in Wissahickon Valley Park with the help of REI of Conshohocken. This year will be the “Kickoff” day for the Kitchen’s Lane Staircase Project. Volunteers will be hand- building a short section of trail (~150ft) that will run between the new stone staircases and performing additional invasive removal that is needed in the area. Registration is not required but is recommended in order to be notified in case of any changes due to weather. Volunteers are encouraged to bike, hike, or carpool to workdays.
