Four military branches converge on Joint Base for weekend training
Residents near Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst may hear “booms” and feel “rumbles” this weekend.
Numerous Army, Marine, Navy, and Air Force units are conducting artillery and mortar firing training at the base through Monday, according to a military press release. Firing is scheduled to cease at 11 p.m. each day.
“This training is essential and helps to ensure the readiness of America’s fighting force. As a result of this important combined elements training, some residents may hear more noise than usual coming from our ranges and may experience possible ground shaking. It is important to note that noise from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions,” the release states.
The 42,000-acre installation spans more than 20 miles through portions of Burlington and Ocean counties.
