Former Philadelphia police officer charged in love triangle killing

Listen

A former Philadelphia homicide detective has surrendered to police on charges that he help hide a fugitive.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams says the grand jury is accusing former detective Ronald Dove of hiding his girlfriend in upstate New York when she was a murder suspect.

Williams says Dove also misused his power as an officer.

“To lie to other members of the homicide unit to find out what they knew. He financed her flight. He would drive to New York and come back and not let anyone know where he had been or what he had done,” Williams said.

Dove was fired back in 2013 for “failure to cooperate” with an investigation and lying to police.

His girlfriend, Erica Schwartz has also been charged for her part in eluding capture in addition to allegations of murder.
