Former Haitian dictator ‘Baby Doc’ Duvalier arrested

Reporting from Port-au-Prince, WHYY’s Susan Phillips gives an eyewitness account of the arrest of ex-dictator Jean-Claude ‘Baby Doc’ Duvalier.

Jean-Claude Duvalier, the former dictator of Haiti, also know as “Baby Doc” was arrested today by the Justice Department of Port-au-Prince.

UN forces as well as police descended upon the Karibe Hotel Tuesday morning.

Baby Doc’s lawyer first entered the hotel and then later throngs of cameramen and Haitian police chased the motorcade following Baby Doc to the police headquarters.

Outside of the hotel, crowds of Duvalier supporters cheered for him; saying Rene Preval the current President should not arrest Duvalier.
