Forecasters monitoring storm chance for early to mid next week

A changing weather pattern may spur yet another storm next week, but there’s still plenty of time to sort out the details, a forecaster said.

“The pattern across the entire Continental United States is set to undergo another major change by the final week of January,” said John Homenuk, lead forecaster at New York Metro Weather. “Forecast models are beginning to pick up on the potential, and although it remains in the extended range for now, there are already several systems which raise eyebrows as potential impact events in our area.”

While Homenuk said that forecast model agreement is “fairly impressive,” with two indicating a storm developing from the Central to Eastern United Stated during the early to middle portion of next week, specifics remain uncertain.

“Exactly how the airmass to our north interacts with the storm will determine the eventual outcome of the system,” he said, referring to the potential for either warm or cold air in place as the storm approaches.
