Wilmington offers $10,000 to some residents who buy vacant property
A little homebuyer help in Delaware:
Wilmington is offering up to $10,000 to people who buy vacant property in certain areas.
The program, which does have income restrictions, is available for properties in the 19801, 19802 or 19805 ZIP codes.
The money comes from the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program. At first, says Mayor James Baker, it would be a loan, but would be converted to a grant after the homebuyer lives in the home for five years.
People who get the money will be required to attend an eight-hour counseling class.
