NewsWorks Tonight host Dave Heller sits down for his weekly conversation with Gallup’s Frank Newport to talk about trends in U.S. opinion.

Here are this week’s topics.

Where does the public stand on legalizing marijuana?

Although recreational use of the drug remains illegal in Pennsylvania, the state this week gave the legal go-ahead for a facility in Jefferson County to grow marijuana — for medicinal purposes.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was asked in his press conference on Wednesday about a new Gallup poll showing support for professional football is down, particularly among Republicans. The poll results show some fascinating contrasts with the trend for other sports.

More broadly, what factors are most related to being a fan of sports like baseball, college football, pro basketball, and soccer?

And lastly, President Donald Trump’s job approval rating remains in the 35-39 percent range. However, is there a gray area beyond this binary measure, where people who disapprove actually support Trump on some matters, and those who approve don’t totally support everything he does? New data show there is.

Listen above for the conversation and to find out where American opinions fall.
