Philadelphia cleric to be entombed at cathedral

The Pennsylvania-born cardinal who was the American voice of the Vatican’s Christmas Midnight Mass for 25 years is set to be entombed at a Philadelphia cathedral following his funeral Mass.

Cardinal John Foley’s funeral is set for today at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.

Foley led an ancient Catholic order in the Holy Land for three years before retiring in February. Besides narrating the Christmas Mass for American audiences, he was the editor-in-chief of Philadelphia’s archdiocesan newspaper, The Catholic Standard & Times, from 1970 to 1984.
