Fire breaks out in Germantown high-rise

A fire on the ninth floor of a Germantown high-rise broke out after 6 p.m. this evening. Two people were seen being given medical attention outside of Four Freedoms House at 6101 Morris Street.

The fire forced the evacuation of several floors of the 11-story senior housing complex. The building has 282 apartments. The fire was brought under control around 6:45 p.m.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time. NewsWorks photographer Bas Slabbers counted 12 fire vehicles, three ambulances, and one police car at the scene.

NewsWorks will have more information and photos tonight.
