Final-ly Friday in Mt. Airy channels Fourth of July spirit
This month’s Final-ly Friday event in Mt. Airy is perfect prelude to what could be a super long Fourth of July holiday. This year, July 4 lands on a Wednesday and many people are likely to take the entire week off. In honor of the Fourth of July, Final-ly Friday’s theme is Americana. It will include live jazz and even red-white-and-blue themed desserts.
Final-ly Friday is the Business Association of Mt. Airy’s attempt to generate a First Friday like event, but on the last Friday of each month. An array of Mt. Airy venues will feature live music and entertainment, artisanal guest vendors, restaurant specials, gallery events, and late shopping hours.
At the corner of Greene and carpenter streets Weavers Way will host a street cookout as well as musical entertainment. The Trolley Car Diner, located at 7619 Germantown Ave., will feature a house special of “free water ice with the purchase of an entrée.”
Earth Bread + Brewery, located at 7136 Germantown Ave., has craft beer on tap and a special red-white-and-blue flatbread available that is made with strawberries, cream cheese, and blueberries. A trivia table will be hosted outside by Malt House LTD to test beer knowledge and giveaway prizes including mugs, T-shirts and bottle openers. Avenida restaurant, located at 7402 Germantown Ave., will have $20 pitchers of house sangria and margaritas available on their patio.
For the “Dining Under the Stars” portion of the festivities, Zsa’s Gourmet Ice Cream Food Truck and Little Jimmie’s Café will be on site at Lovett Park from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., the park will also host a free screening of The Wizard of Oz as part of “Moonlight Movies in Mt. Airy.” The Mt. Airy Art Garage will also host a new members exhibit at 6 p.m.
Musicians will perform in shops and on the streets throughout the evening, including roots, bluegrass, jazz, and soul musicians.
