Film explores AA founder’s life, and the group’s lasting legacy

“Bill W.” — a documentary about the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous is coming to Philadelphia this week.

“Bill W.” tells the story of William G. Wilson, a man included in TIME Magazine’s “100 Persons of the 20th Century.”

Interviews, recreations, and rare archival material reveal how Bill Wilson, a hopeless drunk near death from his alcoholism, found a way out of his own addiction and then forged a path for others to follow.

In their weekly conversation, WHYY’s behavioral health reporter Maiken Scott and psychologist Dan Gottlieb discuss the importance of AA.

The film plays at Philadelphia’s Ritz East this week.
