Feds to fund study of covering I-95 at Penn’s Landing

Listen

The age-old dream reuniting Philadelphia and the Delaware River by covering I-95 got a boost during Mayor Michael Nutter’s farewell news conference Thursday.

Mayor Nutter announced  that federal funding has been approved to study of the project.

And the departing mayor said the project had good odds of winning critical federal funding to do the actual work.

“Our federal highway administrations’ preliminary review indicates that substantial portions of this project would be eligible for funding under the interstate highway funding formula,” Nutter said.

This is just the first of many steps necessary to connect Center City with the Delaware waterfront.
