Fear of violence prompts cancellation of Chester church carnival

What would have been a five-day carnival for the city’s youth to enjoy was instead canceled due to fears of youth violence.

Chester’s White Rock Christian Church canceled its spring break carnival at the mayor’s request after a teen shooting incident earlier this month sparked more fear of violence.
Pastor Edward Lilly told the Delaware County Times he wasn’t mad at the requests by Mayor Wendell Butler, Police Chief Darren Alston and Councilman/Public Safety Director John Linder, saying Chester residents need to do their part to stop the violence.

The church, on the 300-block of West Third Street, is near several recent shooting incidents.
