False start

    Talk about not-so-clean getaways!

The Burlington County Times reports that 19-year-old David Carpenter walked into a Beneficial Bank on Route 206 in Tabernacle, N.J., jumped the counter and held a teller at knifepoint while demanding money.

Carpenter fled the bank with $10,000 and, according to the article, he tried to drive away in his 2007 Honda Civic. But when he turned the ignition, the car failed to start, records state. He tried to go back into the bank – the scene of the crime – but found the doors locked. He was found a short time later by New Jersey State Police troopers wandering around a wooded area near the bank, according to court records.

Carpenter was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, aggravated assault, theft and weapons offenses.
