Excessive heat warning through Sunday
The National Weather Service’s excessive heat warning for the Philadelphia area continues until 8 p.m. Sunday.
Today’s heat index is expected to reach around 100 today, with temperatures in the upper 90s during the afternoon. Some inner city areas will experience even higher temperatures.
Those who live and work in urban areas, the elderly, those who are sick, children, and anyone without air-conditioning are at greatest risk.
According to the National Weather Service, heat stroke is the leading cause of non-crash vehicle deaths for children under the age of 14, numbering 27 deaths per year. Do not leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.
