Evaluations, advice surround Philadelphia’s new archbishop

At 10 a.m., the official announcement will come that Denver’s Archbishop Charles Chaput will take over in Philadelphia with Cardinal Justin Rigali has left off.

That’s the cue to begin analyzing Chaput, with everyone from columnists, local Catholic leaders and devout church-goers weighing in who this new archbishop really is and what he brings (or doesn’t bring) to the table.

Philly.com ran three pieces this morning (here, here and here) on how Chaput compares with Rigali in his approach to clergy sexual abuse. CBS3’s piece focuses on Chaput’s personality and relationship with the media. Fox29 says Chaput uses Facebook and loves sports.
