At 10 a.m., the official announcement will come that Denver’s Archbishop Charles Chaput will take over in Philadelphia with Cardinal Justin Rigali has left off.
That’s the cue to begin analyzing Chaput, with everyone from columnists, local Catholic leaders and devout church-goers weighing in who this new archbishop really is and what he brings (or doesn’t bring) to the table.
Philly.com ran three pieces this morning (here, here and here) on how Chaput compares with Rigali in his approach to clergy sexual abuse. CBS3’s piece focuses on Chaput’s personality and relationship with the media. Fox29 says Chaput uses Facebook and loves sports.
We’ll hear from the archdiocese this morning, and later from the Survivor’s Network of those Abused by Priests.
This morning on Radio Times, Michael Sean Winters of the National Catholic Reporter and SNAP’s Barabara Blaine will weigh in with their own evaluations of the change. Tune in at 10 a.m. in WHYY-FM
