A man who had just been convicted of assault is now facing more charges after fleeing the courtroom after the verdict.

The escape attempt happened last Thursday at the New Castle County Courthouse after Cleveland Baldwin of Wilmington was found guilty of assault charges. As the bailiff tried to take Baldwin into custody for his trip to Wilmington’s Young Prison, Baldwin ran out of the courtroom.

After a short chase and struggle, Baldwin was brought back into custody. During the scuffle, a bailiff suffered a cut to the chin and a hand injury.

Baldwin was finally taken to prison. He was later arraigned on new charges including escape after conviction, assault, and resisting arrest with force or violence.
