Emergency roadwork shutters portion of Washington Street in Toms River Tuesday

Emergency roadwork has forced authorities to close a portion of Washington Street in Toms River Tuesday.

Ocean County Engineering and utility crews are repairing a collapsing subterranean pipe near 305 Washington Street, which is situated between Magnolia and Maiden lanes, according to Ralph Stocco, a spokesman for the Toms River Police Department.

Traffic detours will flow through Lexington, Clinton, and Central avenues.

“Motorists are urged to avoid the area, and traffic delays are likely,” Stocco advises.
