Elkins Park Mom reunites with imprisoned son in Iran

No signs yet whether arrested hikers will be released

It’s an emotional day for one Montgomery County family–both here and in Iran.

Elkins Park resident Laura Fattal and two other mothers met with their children who were arrested in July. They had been hiking in Iraq and crossed the border. Iranian officials have accused them of espionage but friends and family maintain the three are innocent.

Alex Fattal says it was amazing to watch TV footage of his mother hugging his younger brother.

“It was beautiful to see them hugging and tremendously emotional to watch and really makes me long to hug my brother and stuff. I’m glad my brother – my mom can hug him – but I wish I could wrap my arms around him too.”

Fattal says he hopes Iranian officials will allow his brother and the two others to come home to America with their mothers.
