Electronics Recycling Jan. 12

Weavers Way Co-op is sponsoring an electronics recycling event on Saturday, January 12, where you can bring your old electronics – including anything that has a plug, such as printers, telephones, televisions, computers, and much more – and know that it will be responsibly and ethically recycled. These items should never be put in the trash, because they end up in landfills and leech toxic chemicals into the soil. But recycling can sometimes mean that they are sent to third world countries, to be dismantled by children, who are then exposed to the toxic chemicals, endangering their health. All items brought to this event will be carefully dismantled here in Philadelphia and reused. This event, which is sponsored by Weavers Way Co-op’s Environment Committee, will take place in the parking lot at Valley Green Bank in Chestnut Hill at 23 W. Highland Ave. Please note the new time of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is free but donations are very much appreciated. The Environment Committee uses the donations to help fund its Grant Program. Last year’s recipients included Chestnut Hill Garden District, Ogontz Library, Hope Garden at Stenton Family Manor, and E. Mt. Airy Community Garden, among others. Deadline for applications for 2013 grants is March 15, 2013. Visit www.weaversway.coop for more information.
