Election returns for free

When I was preparing for our election night broadcast, I paid the city $15 to get a complete set of Philadelphia election returns for the 2008 election, so I could compare what was happening in particular voting divisions.

Turns out I didn’t have to.

I’d forgotten that Stephanie Singer, Democratic leader of the city’s 8th ward in center city runs a website called Campaignscientific.com where you can find complete returns for every voting division going back to 2002.

Singer is a math Ph.D who left her tenured job at Haverford College and got into election-related computer work.

“Most of this was self-taught,” Singer said. “It’s so much easier now with all the tools on the web.”

Singer will have the returns up for the November 2010 election soon.

We’re proud to say Singer is also a regular Newsworks reader. You can find her Mind Map here.
