Elderly woman stranded in N.J. woods reunited with missing cat

An elderly woman has been reunited with her pet cat who escaped while she was stranded in the woods in New Jersey without food or water.

The Press of Atlantic City reported the daughter of 87-year-old Jeannette Haskins found her mom’s 4-year-old gray tabby, Mokey, last week in the same area where Haskins was lost in July.

Soldiers on a scouting mission happened upon Haskins’ car deep in a wooded area and found her slumped over. Officials say she suffered dehydration and possibly heat illness.

Haskins’ daughter, Bonnie Baker of Millersville, Maryland, set out food and traps where Haskins was stranded. She caught five strays before Mokey was found Aug. 29.

Mokey was in good shape other than being skinny and covered in fleas, Haskins said.
