DuPont donates $5 million to Wilmington Hospital

The rennovation and expansion of Wilmington Hospital just got a $5 million boost thanks to DuPont.

The expansion will result in a major increase in capacity at the hospital and add nearly 600 jobs.  “Through the years, our neighbor DuPont has been integral to the success of many Christiana Care programs,” said Dr. Robert J. Laskowski, Christiana Care Health System president and CEO. “DuPont’s leadership on behalf of Delaware’s economic, cultural and civic life is exemplary, and its investment in this project is truly one of the most important events in the history of health care for our city, state and region.”

The $210 million expansion and rennovation project is the second largest in the history of Christiana Care and will grow Wilmington Hopsital by 337,000 square feet.  When it’s all done in 2014, the facility will cover one million square feet including a new intensive care unit, and the emergency department will be double it’s current size.
