Draft district plans for Lower South and West Park draft plans introduced

Center City: Philadelphia2035 Releases First Two Draft Plans from Philadelphia Neighborhoods on Vimeo.

As PlanPhilly’s Kellie Patrick Gates reported, the district plans for Lower South [pdf] and West Park [pdf], were presented on Tuesday evening. Long term goals, like extending the Broad Street Line to the Navy Yard, were advanced as were earl-action items like improving crossings and the streetscape along Parkside Avenue.

Jade McKenzie was also on hand to report for PlanPhilly/Philadelphia Neighborhoods. (Check out Jade’s video above.) Jade spoke with South Philadelphia resident Meeka Outlaw, who said she liked what she saw but said “The biggest problem is that people are not coming out…So the city won’t know what the residents want.”

Participation is key. The Planning Commission is accepting public comment via email on the draft plans until March 1.

Jade McKenzie and Connor Showalter will bring PlanPhilly and Eyes on the Street more reporting from the Lower South and West Park planning districts this year, as part of their work for Philadelphia Neighborhoods, a publication of Temple’s Multimedia Reporting Lab. Coming soon: more stories focusing on the early-action priorities in each district.
