Downingtown parish will move its rectory to make room for new church

Instead of demolishing its rectory, St. Joseph’s parish in Downingtown has plans to move it instead — just across the lawn, to the other side of the convent.

The move will leave room for a new church, which the parish is building to accommodate its growing congregation.

According to a West Chester Daily Local report, the rectory will be moved tomorrow or Friday, and work on the new church is scheduled for March or April of next year. The parish was founded in 1851, but the rectory has been in its current location only since 1941.
