Dover man and son found murdered at home

Dover Police say a 91-year-old man and his 60-year-old son were killed by an intruder at  their home.

A family member called 911 Monday morning after discovering the bodies at the home in the 300-block of North Governors Avenue.  It appears that someone forced entry into the home sometime over the weekend and encountered the two men.  Howard A. Sheppard and his son Howard R. Sheppard died of blunt force trauma to the head.  The Medical Examiner was planning an autopsy.

Neighbors described the Sheppard’s as quiet people.  John Edwards says he would talk about the weather and joke with the elder Sheppard. He remembers he would always order from the local deli.  Edwards says there was a shack in his backyard where he would work on furniture.

Edwards says he first noticed the medical examiner’s van around 9:30 Monday morning.  Anyone who can assist is urged to call Dover Police at 302-736-7111.  Information may also be provided to Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or www.tipsubmit.com
