Dover Downs will begin composting food waste

Food waste from Dover Downs Hotel and Casino will soon make trips to Wilmington, where all the local composting goes.

The casino announced Monday it’ll begin composting food waste to help save money and forward its efficiency efforts.

WHYY’s Shirley Minn reports composting will save the casino about $2,000 in landfill tipping fees. Downs’ trash hauler will bring the casino’s 50 tons of food to the Peninsula Compost Group — the same place the Wells Fargo Center sends its food waste.
