Dog of the Week: Dante
Meet DANTE (A14138269) – a big, blue marshmallow of dog! He was originally brought to the shelter as a stray. He was adopted only to be returned because they didn’t have the time to train a dog. He’s a very handsome and very wiggly 1- to 2 -year-old pit bull mix that loves to play and be petted.
Dante gets so excited when he plays, loves toys and is already learning how to play more appropriately. Dante already knows basic commands like “sit,” “down,” “paw” and “heel.” He walks well on a leash with the use of a harness.
Dante also appears to be crate-trained! We’re really looking for someone to keep up his training, while giving him all the love he deserves. Dante is playful with other dogs and lived with a small dog in his last home, but please bring any dogs you have to the shelter so they can meet. Also, because he’s still learning to play appropriately, Dante shouldn’t go to a home with children under 6. Any other children in the home should come in to meet this silly boy.
Dante is part of the ACCT Pen Pal Program. He has a dedicated volunteer paired with him to teach him basic commands, keep him happy and stress-free while living at the shelter, and market him to potential foster parents and adopters! She can also provide post-placement support once the dog is in your home. Pen Pal dogs are just $25 to adopt which includes their spay/neuter, microchip and first year of vaccinations.
These animals are located at Philadelphia’s animal control shelter, ACCT. They need immediate adoption or foster care. ACCT is located at 111 W Hunting Park Ave and is open 365 days a year. Adoption hours are Monday-Friday; 1pm-8pm; Saturday and Sunday; 10am-5pm. To check the status of an animal, call 267-385-3800. Check in every week with NEast Philly to see the cat and dog of the week.
