District proposes scaling back Promise Academies

This  morning’s special meeting of the School Reform Commission has proven anything but uneventful.

NewsWorks/Notebook reporter Ben Herold is at the meeting and will have more information for us later, but the Notebook’s Dale Mezzacappa has already published a blog post detailing one of the biggest revelations at the meeting: the district’s plan to scale back Promise Academies.

Ackerman supporters are against the plan, which involves scrapping the plan for 11 Promise Academies, and moving forward with only three: Martin Luther King, Germantown and West Philadelphia. Some called the move a racist one against the district’s black and hispanic students.
