DelDot warns motorists to watch out for heat buckled roads

A section of Route 1 southbound near Milton was shut down for over 2 hours Wednesday because the road buckled.

DelDot says motorist should be aware this could happen again on other state roads before this current heat wave ends.  Basically, the heat causes the road material to expand, but not all materials used on the road expand at the same rate.  That causes the bump, which is the road buckle.

Any motorist who sees a road buckle should call DelDot at (302) 659-4600 or dial #77 on your cell.  DelDot is sending out the same warning and requests if stop lights go out after a thunderstorm.
