Delco postal worker arrested for alleged thefts

A Philadelphia-area postal worker has been arrested after allegedly stealing cash and coupons from residents’ mail.

Upper Darby police say 56-year-old John Paschal Iacono was arrested after the United States Postal Service became suspicious after receiving complaints and conducted a sting operation.

Officials say Iacono had worked out of the Clifton Heights Post Office for several years.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports authorities say a special agent deposed two sealed envelopes containing money and surveillance devices in an outgoing mail box. Investigators say Iacono opened one of the letters and that agents approached and identified the $200 in marked bills.

Iacono is charged with theft and other counts. He didn’t comment when reached at his home Friday; a message left for his attorney wasn’t immediately returned.
